Mr. Smith retired from practicing law in 2021. He developed a law practice that reflected his deep roots in DeKalb County and his diverse areas of expertise. He handled complex litigation and appellate cases in both State and Federal Courts. He also managed transactional work including estate planning, business formation, real estate transfers, and a wide variety of related matters. While Mr. Smith handled transactions involving multi-national corporations, he was equally comfortable guiding a young entrepreneur to create a new small business. Similarly, his court cases have taken him from the local probate court all the way to the U. S. Supreme Court.
Prior to establishing his local law practice, Mr. Smith served as a Judge Advocate in the U. S. Marine Corps and as a private attorney in Washington, D. C. After returning to the Sycamore area, he made his mark on the community in many ways outside of the practice of law. He served as the President of the Sycamore Kiwanis Club and the Chairman of the Sycamore United Givers Fund. He has also chaired the DeKalb County Unit of the American Cancer Society and the St. Mary’s School Foundation.
